Not available
When a figure is missing here, we say which of three things happened. Not applicable — the calculation has no meaning for this company in that year. Not available — the figure is not in our data for that period. Not disclosed — the company did not publish it. We write the third only when we have checked. Often we cannot tell whether a gap belongs to the filing or to us, and then we say "not available" and leave the blame unassigned.
How it is computed here
| Formula | not a calculation — a label distinguishing three reasons a figure can be missing |
|---|---|
| Unit | Not a figure — a convention |
| Period | One fiscal year, as reported |
| Source | Extracted from SEC filings; every value on an asset page carries the accounting tag and the filing it came from |
What goes into the formula
| Not applicable | The company's own numbers make the calculation meaningless — dividing by negative equity, for example. |
|---|---|
| Not available | The figure a formula needs is not present in this site's data for that period, for a reason not confirmed. |
| Not disclosed | The company's own filing does not contain the figure — written only when checked against the filing itself. |
A formula without its inputs explained is decoration. Where an input is missing from a filing, the metric is left empty here rather than completed with a zero or an estimate.
How to calculate not available, step by step
Two real companies, two blank cells, two different labels for two different reasons.
| Company with negative equity in 2020 | "Not applicable" on return on equity |
|---|---|
| Company missing a cash figure in 2014 | "Not available" on net debt to equity |
- The 2020 negative equity makes return on equity meaningless: labelled not applicable, a fact about the company that year.
- The 2014 cash figure is missing from this site's data, cause unconfirmed: labelled not available, a statement about this site, not about the company.
- "Not disclosed" is reserved for a gap checked against the filing itself and confirmed absent there.
Result: Two blank cells, two specific and different reasons
The label is chosen for what can be shown to be true, not for what would be most informative to guess.
The figures in this example are illustrative and rounded — they are not a real company. The real figures on this site are the live ones below and on every asset page, each carrying the filing it came from.
What not available is good for
A number silently missing looks like an error. Naming which of the three reasons applies turns that silence into information, without turning an unconfirmed gap into an accusation against a company that may in fact have filed the figure.
What this number does not tell you
"Not available" is not a claim about the company. It is a statement about this site: that a figure is missing from what this site holds, for a reason not always possible to pin on the filing or on the reading of it.
Every metric on this site is published with its blind spot stated. A figure without its limit is half a fact.
