Privacy policy
What this site collects, what the advertising does, and how you refuse it. Short, because there is little to say.
Almost nothing, and no persistent personal profile
TickerMode has no accounts, no login and no newsletter. We do not ask for your name, your email or your portfolio, and there is no form here that would take them. The main-site pages you see are files written in advance and served as they are — nothing in them is assembled from anything you told us.
What does exist is the ordinary technical record any web server keeps in order to answer a request — your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser's user agent. Our hosting provider processes that to deliver the site and to block abuse.
One thing does send something, and only when you ask it to. Each panel of figures has a share button. Pressing it sends three identifiers to a server of ours — which company, which panel, and which language you are reading in. The server builds a small card out of figures this site already publishes, keeps that card and the matching card in each other supported language, and hands you a link to it. The card holds the company’s figures and nothing about you: no name, no address, no identifier for your browser, nothing that leads back to whoever pressed the button. It is kept until we remove it, and the link works for anyone who has it. Press nothing and none of this happens.
So that the same button cannot be used to hammer the server, it counts requests against the requesting IP address in a fixed one-minute window and then starts a new window. The counter record may remain in our storage for up to 120 seconds, but it is not attached to the card, it cannot be read back out of it, and it expires on its own. How long our providers keep their own request logs is their retention, not ours, and we do not set it.
The AdSense code is present; we place no ad unit today
This site carries Google's AdSense code, which can write cookies in your browser. As of today, this site's own code places no ad unit on any page — they have been removed while the AdSense account is under review. Separately, Google's AdSense offers an “Auto ads” feature that can insert ads directly from that same code, controlled from the AdSense account rather than from this site's code; whether it is enabled on this account is not stated here.
Because the code is present, Google may still set cookies tied to that code even without a visible ad. If ad units are turned back on, this page is regenerated along with the rest of the site, and third-party vendors and ad networks serving them may place and read cookies from your browser — we would not control those cookies or receive the data they collect.
You can review or opt out of personalised advertising in advance at Google Ads Settings, and opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
Two items, and nothing there identifies you
The site stores two items on your device. Which theme you chose, light or dark, kept in your browser's local storage. Which language you chose, so that the site stops offering to switch once you have answered, kept in your browser's local storage.
The local entries are not uploaded automatically, and they say nothing about who you are: each entry holds one short preference and nothing else. When you press the share button, the current language value is sent as one of the three panel identifiers described above. What is stored stays on your device until you remove it.
Clearing this site's data in your browser removes all of it — in most browsers that is the site information panel next to the address bar, or the setting for clearing browsing data. Nothing breaks if you do: the site simply forgets your preferences and asks again where it needs to.
Refusing costs you nothing here
- Browser settings can block or delete cookies at any time. Nothing on this site stops working if you do — there is no feature that depends on being recognised.
- Ad personalisation can be switched off at the links above without leaving the site less usable.
- If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or a jurisdiction with comparable rules, you have the right to ask what personal data is held about you and to have it deleted. We do not keep a persistent personal profile. The only personal data our own storage may hold is the short-lived IP rate-limit record described above; it expires automatically and is not attached to a share card. Questions or requests about personal data go to [email protected].
Not built for them
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Written down, not announced
If this policy changes, the version you are reading is the one in force, and the site is regenerated whenever it does. Questions about it go to [email protected].
