Athene issues, reinsures and acquires retirement savings products for individuals and institutions. As of December 31, 2025, it had approximately 1,970 employees, primarily located in the US. It principally offers two product lines, annuities and funding agreements. Its annuities include fixed rate, indexed, payout and group annuities issued in connection with pension group annuity transactions and defined contribution plans. It issues funding agreements to institutional investors, which provide the agreement holder with a guaranteed return of principal and periodic interest payments at a fixed or floating rate. It has developed four dedicated distribution channels for the retirement services market: retail, flow reinsurance, institutional, and acquisitions and block reinsurance. In the retail channel it distributes its retirement savings products through a network of 41 IMOs, 18 banks and 163 broker-dealers, collectively representing approximately 152,000 independent agents in all 50 states. Apollo Global Management, Inc. is the beneficial owner of 100% of its common stock and controls all of the voting power to elect its board of directors.
