What this company does

EnerSys designs, manufactures, and distributes energy systems solutions, motive power batteries, specialty batteries, battery chargers, power equipment, battery accessories and outdoor equipment enclosure solutions to customers worldwide. It also provides aftermarket and customer support services to over 10,000 customers in more than 100 countries, through a network of distributors, independent representatives, and its internal sales force. The Company identifies four operating segments, based on lines of business: Energy Systems, Motive Power, Specialty, and New Ventures. The Energy Systems segment covers uninterruptible power systems (UPS) applications for computer and computer-controlled systems, as well as telecommunications systems, switchgear and electrical control systems used in industrial facilities and electric utilities, large-scale energy storage and energy pipelines. The Motive Power segment provides power for electric industrial forklifts, AGVs and other material handling equipment used in manufacturing and warehousing operations, as well as equipment used in floor care, mining, rail and airport ground support applications. The Specialty segment covers premium starting, lighting and ignition applications in transportation, energy solutions for satellites, spacecraft, commercial aircraft, military aircraft, submarines, ships and other tactical vehicles, defense applications and portable power solutions for soldiers in the field, as well as medical devices and equipment. The New Ventures segment provides energy storage and management systems for demand charge reduction, utility back-up power, and dynamic fast charging for electric vehicles. EnerSys and its predecessor companies have manufactured industrial batteries for over 125 years; the company was incorporated in October 2000 to complete the acquisition of Yuasa Corporation's reserve power and motive power battery businesses in North and South America, and on January 1, 2001 it changed its name from Yuasa, Inc. to EnerSys.
