In brief

What this company does

Suncor operates through four segments: Oil Sands, Exploration and Production (E&P), Refining and Marketing (R&M), and Corporate and Eliminations. Its Oil Sands segment produces bitumen from mining operations at Base Plant Mine, Syncrude and Fort Hills and from In Situ operations at Firebag and MacKay River, in the Athabasca oil sands of northeast Alberta. Integrated upgrading facilities at Base Plant and Syncrude turn bitumen into synthetic crude oil or blend it with diluent for refinery feedstock or direct sale to market. Its E&P segment consists of offshore operations off the east coast of Canada and onshore assets in Libya and Syria. The R&M segment brings together refining and supply operations, sales and marketing operations, and the infrastructure supporting the marketing supply of refined products, crude oil and byproducts. Its retail network operates nationally in Canada, primarily under the Petro-Canada brand.
