It provides financial protection benefits, including disability, life, accident, critical illness, dental and vision products and other related services, marketed primarily through the workplace. It has three core operating segments, Unum US, Unum International, and Colonial Life, along with the Closed Block and Corporate segments. As of December 31, 2025, it employed 10,910 employees, of which approximately 10,684 were full-time, with approximately 84 percent based in the United States and the remaining 16 percent international. Its Unum US segment is comprised of group disability, group life and accidental death and dismemberment, and supplemental and voluntary lines of business. Its Unum International segment includes operations in the United Kingdom and Poland, with Unum UK selling group long-term disability, group life, and supplemental products including dental, individual disability and critical illness, and Unum Poland selling individual and group life with accident and health riders. Its Colonial Life segment includes the accident, sickness and disability product line, the life product line, and the cancer and critical illness product line, issued primarily by Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company and marketed to employees at the workplace through an independent contractor agent sales force and brokers. Its Closed Block segment consists of group and individual long-term care and other insurance products no longer actively marketed.
