In brief

What this company does

Visa provides transaction processing services, primarily authorization, clearing and settlement, among consumers, issuing and acquiring financial institutions and sellers. During fiscal 2025, 329 billion payments and cash transactions carrying its brand were processed by Visa or other networks, an average of 901 million transactions per day. Its total payments and cash volume in that year was $17 trillion, with nearly 5 billion payment credentials available to be used at more than 175 million merchant locations worldwide. Its clients, including nearly 14,500 financial institutions, use Visa-branded payment products to offer credit, debit, prepaid and cash access programs for individual, business and government account holders. The company facilitates money movement across more than 200 countries and territories, among consumers, sellers, financial institutions and government entities. Visa is not a financial institution and does not issue cards, extend credit or set rates and fees for account holders of its products. It also provides value-added services to its clients, across Issuing Solutions, Acceptance Solutions, Risk and Security Solutions and Advisory and Other Services. The business of facilitating global commerce and money movement dates from Visa's early days in 1958.
