At December 31, 2025 it was aligned in four operating sectors, which also comprise its reportable segments: Aeronautics Systems, Defense Systems, Mission Systems and Space Systems. Aeronautics Systems designs, develops, produces, integrates, sustains and modernizes military aircraft systems for the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Navy, other U.S. government agencies and international customers. Defense Systems designs, engineers, develops, integrates and produces strategic deterrent systems, tactical weapons and missile defense solutions for the U.S. military and international customers. Mission Systems provides mission solutions and multifunction systems, primarily for the U.S. defense and intelligence community and international customers. Space Systems designs, develops, integrates, produces and operates space, missile defense and launch systems for national security, civil government, commercial and international customers. The company was formed in 1939 in Hawthorne, California as Northrop Aircraft Incorporated and was reincorporated in Delaware in 1985 as Northrop Corporation.
