Pottery Barn, established in 1949 and acquired by Williams-Sonoma, Inc. in 1986, offers furniture, bedding, lighting, rugs, table essentials, and decorative accessories. Williams-Sonoma, Inc. was incorporated in 1973, and its founder, Chuck Williams, had opened a store in Sonoma, California, in 1956, to sell French cookware that could not be found in America at the time.
